President's Welcome
President's Welcome
This fall has turned out to be anything but routine for KAMFT! Let me update you on several important matters…
First, our board membership is changing. Scott Kaminsky and Stacey Hodges have both resigned, leaving the President-Elect and Secretary positions open for now. Thank you, Scott and Stacey, for your good contributions to KAMFT! Our Elections Committee Chair, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , is building our ballot for a new slate of officers to be elected by year’s end… so please contact her if you can serve!
The board’s effort to combine our annual DSM Workshop with a member-only outreach to student and associate members didn’t have enough registrations to be held November 5th, which we regret. Our Student/Associate Member Representative, Kale Monk, and his student peers at KSU had done a great job organizing the event. The board will be evaluating future directions for this member resource in the coming months.
Two major legislative events also have emerged this fall. On the state level, implementation of the Addictions Counselor Licensure Act this summer appears to be shutting out other BSRB licensed professions from Medicaid reimbursement for SUD services. The KAMFT board is joining with other professional groups to clarify and challenge these developments. At the national level, Senator Pat Roberts has co-sponsored an important act to improve rural healthcare access which includes naming MFTs as Medicare providers. Watch for upcoming information on both of these matters from Rusty Andrews, our KAMFT legislative liaison.
Please talk with your MFT peers about these matters, and help our association actively respond!
